Before you start an online business, there are 3 important questions to ask yourself.
Getting clear on these questions will mean that you’re either building a business that feels like YOU, or unconsciously choosing a business that isn’t aligned with who you are.
Alignment is what creates joy and meaning in your work so that you can earn a living with purpose.
Let’s dig into these three questions today.
What business should I start based on my personality?
There are many wonderful business types out there, but not all of them are aligned with who you naturally are.
Knowing the ideal business to start based on your personality helps you to do work you love.
When you choose a business model that leverages your natural tendency and authentic strengths, you show up more effectively and attract clients more often.
There are five service-business profile types – The Coach, The Educator, The Strategist, The Producer, and The Community Builder. Head over to my free quiz to find your ideal business based on your personality!
If you’re clear on the type of business to start, you can begin to repurpose your skills and expertise to do work that’s meaningful to you, and in a “vehicle” of business that amplifies your gifts.
The ability to see your current skills and experience in a new light will support you in deploying what you know how to do into a more meaningful direction.
You CAN lean on your corporate strengths to start a business, without feeling like you have to start from scratch.
What offers suit my work style and strengths?
Knowing the ideal business type that best suits your personality is a great start, but what if you can also intentionally design your offers to stand out with your zone of genius?
If you want to ENJOY delivering your work in ways that feel meaningful and fulfilling, you’ll want to pay attention to how you want to offer your work that aligns with your work style.
You have unique strengths and skills that are better suited for specific formats of offers.
And if you’re multi-passionate like me and refuse to choose just one thing, you can leverage the different parts of who you are in creative areas in your business. Like combining gifts in how you design your offer or using those talents in how you market differently.
For example, if you’re more of an Educator profile, you’re more suited for offers that allow you to teach one-to-many and your “genius zone” lies in breaking concepts down into digestible formats.
Here’s a sneak peek of how an Educator profile may create richer work and higher value in what they offer…
Your unique style and strengths lend a hand in designing HOW you lead, facilitate, and help clients in more creative ways, whether they’re courses, workshops, or other ways you may teach in a group setting.
When you’re intentional about using more of your strengths in one business to create a fun structure, system, and approach in how you work with clients, you can show up doing your best work in an offer to truly transform results for your clients!
How do I want to market my business?
The idea of sales and marketing can feel daunting for new business owners, especially if you feel like you have to be a particular personality type to be heard.
Marketing doesn’t have to be a daunting activity if we choose to redefine what marketing can be.
It can be a way to build genuine relationships.
It can be seen as creative ways to educate your clients (vs. selling to them).
It can be creative and fun when you market with your strengths!
You don’t need to be extroverted and loud to be visible. When I work with clients who are introverted for example, I encourage them to use their “quiet power” to be seen and heard.
They build trust and credibility through approaches like intimacy marketing (1:1 connections, collaborations and partnerships with like-minded colleagues, or “show and tell” their expertise through deep research and planning).
Whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, or someone in between, there are specific “marketing vehicles” that are best suited for your style of connecting and building relationships.
When you can get your clients through authentic marketing to plant seeds for your business in a way that feels helpful, generous, and non-sleazy, you’ll be motivated to share your work more often.
These 3 important questions help you to start your business intentionally.
You can be firm in honouring who YOU are and where your strengths are best suited to create a thriving business that feels GOOD to run.
