My Body Changed the Schedule

My body changed the schedule

Nobody prepared me for the fact that perimenopause might change how I run my business.

There’s plenty of content about the hot flashes and the mood swings, but nobody mentions that the operating speed you built your entire business around might just not be available to you anymore. That was a fun discovery.

My business has had to look different because of it. It meant shorter work days, fewer calls in a row, more mornings where I cook breakfast slowly instead of opening my laptop before my brain is actually online.

I don’t work Fridays anymore and I don’t offer a reason. And honestly the work got better for it, because I’m actually present for it instead of dragging myself through a schedule that was designed for a version of me that had different energy.

But I didn’t adapt to that gracefully or quickly. And most of the women I work with are in the middle of that adaptation right now.

Something has shifted, whether it’s their body, or an aging parent who needs them, or a health priority, and they’re still trying to run the business at the old speed.

And then wondering why everything feels so much harder than it used to, and assuming the answer is that something’s wrong with their strategy.

I think that’s the part that takes a while to understand. That the pace you built your business at was specific to the version of you who built it.

And when that version changes, the business has to change too. Otherwise you’re not running a business that fits who you are today.

The business conversation has to start there. Not with funnels or visibility or positioning. But with this bigger question:

What is my life actually asking of me right now, and does my business have room for that?

If that’s the conversation you need to have, a Walk and Talk is where it starts. You book in, we both walk outside, no screens, just a real conversation. One hour to get honest about what’s shifted and figure out what to do about it.

I write about this stuff a lot.
