Hey there, it's Lydia - and I’d love to re-introduce myself! I’m the Work Reinvention Coach & Solopreneur Strategist at Screw The Cubicle. I used to be one of those corporate professionals who thought success was all about climbing the ladder, slogging on weekends, and making more money. But after experiencing a serious case of burnout, I knew there had to be more to life than that.

That's when I started my blog to chronicle my journey leaving the corporate world, but little did I know that it would turn into a thriving business (I’m celebrating my 10-year business anniversary this year!) 🎉

I'm passionate about helping others discover meaningful work and lifestyle freedom, and building "company of one" businesses that support them in living their best lives. With a base in the tropics and a love for travel, I've created a location-independent life that allows me to work with clients from all over the world while my trusty sidekick Scruffy 🐶 - my adopted dog - enjoys her favourite activity of mud baths in paddy fields (scroll to pic #2).

At the beginning of February, my best friend from

At the beginning of February, my best friend from Canada flew in to spend time with me in Bali. I was excited for many reasons!

It was her first time in SE Asia, and we haven't had a longer adventure together since she had her three babies almost a decade ago (I was actually the first one that she told when she was pregnant with her first, the day before I flew out to Asia to live abroad!).

Getting time with just the two of us was so special. We explored, talked all day and night, and enjoyed the slowness of the island.

And then BAM. Hours after I said goodbye to her, I got very sick and experienced skull- crushing headaches where I couldn't sleep for two nights straight.

The days after were ups and downs. Some days I felt like I couldn't get out of bed. On other days I felt totally normal again to take on the world.

Then I observed a very interesting thing.

During the days when I had the most energy and felt great, the thought in my head was, "I need to do MORE today to 'make up' for all the days I wasn't productive".

Then I'll bask in the high of getting stuff done. But almost always after, I would have a crash.

Have you ever done this too?

There's a belief we have that resting isn't productive.

That we need to "make up for lost time" if we rested to recover our body, spirit, and mind.

Or that we need to be sprinting to some imaginary finish line.

Instead, what if we just bask in the glory of resting?

What if we choose to stay in the slow lane a bit longer, even if we did have the energy to do more?

By doing this, we can teach our bodies and minds to experience longer reset times, to fully rest, and not feel shameful about an innate need we all deserve.

When we are ready to "do" again, it'll come from a place of calm rather than a panicked state to tackle a list of to-do's.

Being productive in a sustainable way requires us to prioritize rest not just during times of illness or exhaustion, but as part of our everyday well-being to be the best we can be as we pursue our goals.

What a treat to have my Canadian bestie @tristayatate10 all to myself on her visit to see me in Bali 🥰. I cherish our wonderful friendship so much. We may not see each other for years at times, but when we are together, it’s like no time has passed. She’s one of the kindest and most loving person I know (and an amazing mom to three beautiful kiddies!). I’m so happy we got to take a tropical adventure together, even if we had to battle the monsoon rains one evening with garbage bags on our heads 😂🫣. Love you to the moon and back, wifey! ❤️
