Career Change

4 Tell-Tale Signs You’ve Outgrown Your Corporate Career

With Lydia Lee

You may have tell-tale signs that your corporate career isn’t aligned with the life you’re trying to create for yourself.

Some major signs may look like this:

  • You’re Exhausted Day-to-Day – Your days seem to roll into one, and the routine of your day-to-day is dragging you down. People in these situations often feel exhausted, and suffer from low energy levels. Many will choose escapism in the evenings, by self-medicating or numbing out to TV.
  • You Don’t Want Your Boss’ Job – Do you want to be in your boss’s shoes? If not, then why are you trying to rise up through the ranks? Admitting that you don’t want the life, job or responsibilities of your superior is a common sign that it’s time to make a change.
  • You’re Not Learning Anymore -Not all organizations are capable of helping you learn and grow continuously. We can take responsibility for our own learning to an extent. But if you can’t see any opportunities for learning within your organization then it might be time to move on to new pastures.
  • You Don’t Feel Like You’re Living Up To Your Fullest Potential – If your gut instincts tell you that your work doesn’t feel meaningful or you aren’t living up to your highest potential, it’s time for a change. Work gives us a sense of purpose, and we need to feel that we’re proud of the contribution we’re making to the world.

If you’re experiencing any of these signs, you don’t need to feel like things have gone “wrong”.

These moments of change can help you to become more self-aware of what you’re really craving in your work, and how to assess what you need in creating meaningful work of your very own.

When we feel a sense of dissatisfaction or unfulfillment with our career trajectory and work, it is an OPPORTUNITY to recalibrate and decide where we want to continue (or pivot) our body of work.

You may also be craving more creative control over how you work, what you work on, and whom you want to work with.

It doesn’t always mean you throw away your years of experience. It may simply take a simple tweak or a new direction you will repurpose your skills.

If you would love to learn how you can use the skills and experience you have to build a business that gives you the life you truly want, I’d love to invite you on a free training with me to support you with the next steps.
